When bad weather is on the way, how a roofing crew approaches the job matters.
On this project, the crew knew the weather could turn, so instead of tearing off the entire house at once, they worked in sections. Half of the roof was torn off and shingled, while the other half remained protected until the weather passed.
Tomorrow, the crew can continue the tear-off on the remaining section and keep the project moving.

What’s underneath your roof matters, especially in moisture exposed areas.
This overhang was beginning to deteriorate. As part of the repair, our team is replacing the affected area with CDX plywood instead of OSB, a material choice better suited for this particular application.
The crew is also looking for ways to work efficiently and reduce waste. By strategically cutting the plywood, one sheet can provide 16 feet of coverage.

Proper roof ventilation is about creating a complete airflow system.
In this attic, the lack of proper intake and exhaust ventilation contributed to significant deterioration, leaving the plywood rotting and splitting. The solution required fully re-sheeting the roof to give the new roofing system a solid foundation.
By addressing the ventilation and replacing the damaged plywood now, the goal is to prevent long-term problems and help the roof system perform the way it should.

What happens when an older low slope roof starts to deteriorate?
This roof on Bainbridge Island has an older torch down membrane, and our estimator points out a noticeable sign of wear: the reflective coating on the surface is flaking and coming off.
Torch down roofing is commonly used on low slope applications, but like any roofing material, it can deteriorate with age and exposure. When the surface begins breaking down, it’s worth having the entire membrane evaluated to determine its remaining condition and whether repairs or replacement may be needed.

What goes into a properly installed roof valley?
Our project manager walks through the process step by step.
First, the valley is wrapped with synthetic underlayment before valley metal is installed. From there, the crew chalks a line 2 inches from the center of the valley. This gives them a consistent reference point as the bleeder shingles are installed and helps keep the layout even all the way up the valley.
Once the bleeder shingles are in place, the roofing shingles are installed in a book-like pattern, creating a clean, consistent layout while directing water toward the valley.
A roof valley is one of the areas where water naturally concentrates, so proper installation and attention to detail are especially important.
