What happens when you tear off a roof and discover there’s no plywood underneath the shingles?
That’s exactly what our crew found during this church roof replacement. After removing the existing shingles, we uncovered insulation without plywood beneath it.
Our PM explains why plywood sheets matters. Shingles need a solid substrate for proper fastening, and the sheathing is an important part of maintaining the roofing system’s wind resistance and meeting applicable installation and warranty requirements.
Before a new roof can be installed, the underlying structure needs to be properly prepared for the roofing system going on top of it.
It’s a good reminder that a roof replacement is about much more than what you see from the ground.
