What’s really happening underneath all that moss?
When moss builds up on a roof, it can hide the condition of the shingles underneath. And when that moss is removed, granules can come off with it, leaving the areas that were covered with moss with significantly less granule protection than the surrounding shingles.
This is also why roof cleanings need to be approached carefully. Cleaning can help in some situations, but the condition and age of the roofing system should be considered before deciding how to remove the moss.
