- Cleaning Out Your Roof’s Gutters
Whether you were aware or not, gutters should be cleaned and maintained seasonally. This is because they catch whatever comes down your roof, whether leaves or debris of some sort, and if not cleaned that could lead to major, expensive trouble. No one wants the gutters of their home to back up on a random rainy spring day simply because they are not cleaned out.
While cleaning, take a few minutes out of your day to inspect the gutters and ensure that they are in good condition. While you’re at it, you can also add gutter screens which reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning them in the future.
- Look for Loose Shingles and Flashing
On a non-windy day these can be quite difficult to look for. When shingles become loosened, it can open the door to various issues. If you aren’t sure whether or not your roof is affected by this, have a professional roofer come by to inspect. It is easier to stop small issues from turning into big ones if you find them before that happens.

Trees are beautiful but when their branches start hanging over your roof or worse begin to touch it that is a one way road to problems just waiting to happen. You should also take a moment and inspect the inside of your attic. You want to look for water damage, cracks, holes and any signs of animals up there. This is also a great time to check for mold. If it smells musty, you may need to pull back the insulation to take a look.
