Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County: Building Homes, Hope, and Stronger Communities

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam CountyBy Katie Rains

A home is more than a roof, walls, and a front door. It’s where families settle into routines, children grow up, and people build a future. Having a safe, stable place to live can shape nearly every part of a person’s life, yet finding affordable housing remains a real challenge for many people in Clallam County.

That is where Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is making a difference.

Integrity Roofing & Construction is proud to partner with an organization that shares something important with us: a belief that everyone deserves a safe, dependable place to call home. While our work focuses on roofing and exterior construction, Habitat Clallam takes a broader approach to housing by helping qualified families become homeowners, building affordable homes, and assisting existing homeowners who need critical repairs.

Its work reaches beyond individual houses. It supports families working toward greater stability, helps residents remain safely in the homes they already love, and brings volunteers, local businesses, and community members together around a shared purpose.

We believe protecting homes is important, but so is helping make sure people have access to one in the first place. Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is one more way we can support the people and communities that make the Olympic Peninsula such a special place to live.

Making Homeownership Possible for More Families

For many people, owning a home represents years of hard work and planning. It can mean having a stable place to raise children, knowing where you will live in the years ahead, and having an opportunity to build equity over time.

But in a place like Clallam County, where housing costs can put homeownership out of reach for local workers and families, that goal is not always easy to achieve.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County works to change that.

Originally established in Sequim in 1991 as Dungeness Valley Habitat for Humanity, the organization later expanded its work under the name Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County. For more than three decades, it has worked with local families and community partners to create opportunities for affordable homeownership and improve existing housing.

Its homeownership program partners with qualified households to build and purchase modest, well-built homes at an affordable price. Families must meet eligibility requirements, demonstrate the ability to manage an affordable mortgage, and participate in the process of preparing for homeownership. That partnership includes contributing time and effort, completing homebuyer education, and learning about financial management and home maintenance.

This is an important distinction. Habitat is not simply handing someone a house. It’s helping qualified families work toward owning a home they can maintain, invest in, and build their lives around.

That opportunity can have an impact well beyond the day a family receives its keys. Stable homeownership can give parents a stronger foundation for raising their children, help families build equity, and create a greater sense of connection to their community.

Habitat Clallam continues to develop housing opportunities throughout the county, including projects designed to serve local families and veterans. Each home represents more than a construction milestone. It represents another opportunity for someone to put down roots.

Keeping Existing Homes Safe and Livable

Building new homes is only part of Habitat Clallam’s work. The organization also recognizes that many people already have a home but struggle to afford the repairs needed to keep it safe.

An aging home can develop problems that are difficult to ignore and even harder to pay for. Damaged steps, deteriorating siding, an unsafe entryway, or accessibility issues can affect a homeowner’s ability to move around comfortably and safely. For older adults and people living on limited incomes, these repairs may be beyond what their budgets allow.

Habitat Clallam’s Critical Repair Program helps qualified homeowners address certain health, safety, and accessibility needs so they can continue living in their homes.

Depending on the property and the homeowner’s needs, repairs may include work on steps, porches, wheelchair ramps, windows, exterior doors, siding, trim, and other areas that affect the safety and condition of the home. Interior accessibility improvements may also be considered.

The program brings together Habitat’s construction staff, volunteers, and community support to help homeowners preserve their properties. Applicants must meet program requirements, and repairs depend on eligibility, available funding, and the nature of the work needed.

This work matters because not every homeowner who needs help is looking for a new house. Sometimes, the most meaningful thing an organization can do is help someone remain in the home they have lived in for years.

A necessary repair can make daily life safer, reduce barriers to mobility, and give a homeowner a better chance of staying independent. It can also address problems before the home becomes even more difficult or expensive to maintain.

There is a natural connection between this mission and the work we do at Integrity Roofing & Construction. We know that a home’s exterior plays an important role in protecting the structure and the people inside it. Roofs, siding, flashing, and drainage systems all have a job to do, especially in the wet weather we experience across Western Washington.

We also know that home repairs are not always simple decisions. Cost, timing, and the condition of the property all factor into what a homeowner can realistically take on.

That is one reason we appreciate Habitat’s work. By helping qualified homeowners address critical repairs, the organization is working toward the same broader goal we care about: making homes safer places to live.

Home being built

A Community Effort From the Ground Up

One of the most meaningful parts of Habitat for Humanity’s approach is that it brings people together to make the work possible.

Building affordable housing takes more than a construction site and a set of plans. It requires materials, funding, skilled oversight, volunteers, and partnerships with people and businesses willing to contribute their time and resources.

Habitat Clallam’s volunteer program gives individuals, church groups, businesses, and other community organizations opportunities to participate in construction, repair projects, and other parts of the organization’s work. Volunteers do not need to arrive with years of building experience. Tasks vary depending on the project, and volunteers work under supervision to help move the work forward.

That creates an opportunity for people to contribute in a hands-on way. Someone might help on a construction site, assist with a repair project, or spend time supporting Habitat’s local stores. Each role contributes to the larger mission.

The organization’s ReStores are another important part of that effort. Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County operates locations in Port Angeles and Sequim, where donated goods and home improvement items are sold to the public. These stores provide an opportunity for people to find useful items at affordable prices while supporting Habitat’s local housing work.

They also give usable materials and household goods another life instead of sending them straight to a landfill. For people renovating a home, furnishing a space, or looking for building supplies, a ReStore can be a practical local resource.

What stands out about this model is how many different forms community support can take. Some people contribute labor. Others donate materials, shop at the stores, give financially, or help spread the word about Habitat’s programs.

A local business can contribute through a partnership. A volunteer can contribute a few hours. A community member can donate items they no longer need.

None of these contributions has to carry the entire mission on its own. Together, they help Habitat continue building and preserving homes across Clallam County.

Why We Are Proud to Partner With Habitat Clallam

At Integrity Roofing & Construction, we spend our days working on homes throughout the communities we serve. We help homeowners understand the condition of their roofs, make informed decisions about repairs and replacements, and protect their properties from the weather.

That work is important to us. But we have always believed that being part of a community means more than providing a service when someone needs it.

It also means supporting organizations that are working to make life better for the people around us.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is doing exactly that. Its work addresses a fundamental need by creating paths to affordable homeownership and helping qualified residents preserve the homes they already have. We appreciate that its approach recognizes both sides of housing stability: people need opportunities to find a home, and they also need ways to keep that home safe and livable.

Those goals are especially meaningful in the communities we serve along the Olympic Peninsula. Homes are part of the fabric of the region, and the people who live in them contribute to the local schools, businesses, neighborhoods, and organizations that make these places feel like home.

We are proud to support an organization that invests directly in those people.

Our community partnerships also give us a chance to look beyond our day-to-day work and connect with organizations that have different expertise but share a commitment to helping local residents. Habitat’s work is a reminder that strong communities are built through collaboration. No single business or organization can meet every need, but each can contribute something meaningful.

That is the kind of community involvement we want to continue being part of. We want to support local efforts, recognize the people doing important work, and help strengthen the places where our customers, team members, and neighbors live.
